Joanne
Tanner
June 24, 1932 – April 27, 2026
Ms. Joanne Theresa Tanner, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, peacefully passed away on April 27, 2026. Born on June 24, 1932, in Davenport, Iowa, Joanne was the beloved daughter of the late Melvin McGowan and Mamie McGowan.
From a young age, she embodied a spirit of kindness, humility, and quiet strength—qualities that would define her life and endear her to all who had the blessing of knowing her.
Joanne was a devoted caretaker, a role she carried not only as a profession but as a calling woven into the fabric of her life. Her nurturing spirit extended to everyone she encountered, always placing the needs of others before her own. She later retired as a secretary for Laney & Duke, where she faithfully served for 15 dedicated years, leaving a legacy of diligence, grace, and professionalism.
Known for her gentle heart and giving nature, Joanne had a way of making others feel seen, valued, and loved. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—knitting with care, delighting in her favorite colors, and sharing her warmth through conversation and laughter. Her familiar phrase, “one minute,” often spoken with affection, became a cherished expression among those who knew her best. She was also known for her exceptional peach cobbler, lovingly prepared and shared, creating moments of comfort and togetherness that will never be forgotten.
Joanne was preceded in death by her beloved parents; her first husband, Valine Tanner; and her significant other, Albert Kennedy.
Her beautiful legacy lives on through her children: Ron Snyder (Missy), John Snyder (Judy), Michael Tanner (Marie), James Tanner (Tracy), Valerie Craig (Barry), and Toni Tanner. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Joanne’s life was a testament to selfless love, quiet strength, and enduring grace. Though she is no longer with us in body, the warmth of her spirit, the lessons of her love, and the memories she leaves behind will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
