Mr. Vernon DeWayne Young was born on December 20, 1958, to the late Reverend J.W. Young, Sr. and Marian Delores McLaurin Young, in Jacksonville, Florida. He transitioned to be with the Lord on March 10, 2026.
Vernon was educated in the Duval County Public School system and was a proud graduate of Edward H. White High School, Class of 1976. A man committed to growth and excellence, he furthered his education at Florida A&M University, where he earned a double master's degree—an accomplishment that reflected both his discipline and dedication to lifelong learning.
He honorably served his country in the United States Navy, retiring with distinction as a Lieutenant Commander. His life of service extended beyond the military, as he continued his professional journey in leadership and sales, serving as a Sales Manager with Elo Restoration. He also contributed his talents and expertise while working with ADT and Xfinity, where he was known for his professionalism, dedication, and ability to connect with others.
Vernon lived a life marked by strength, wisdom, and quiet compassion. He carried himself with dignity and was deeply valued by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy is one of service, perseverance, and unwavering love for family and community.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Julie Young; three brothers, George Young, LeRoy Young, and Ronald Young; two sisters, Barbara Young Smith and Wanda F. Young; and a childhood friend, Allen Durham.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved daughter, Mikaila Stokes; two brothers, John W. Young, Jr. and Rev. Charles S. Young (Mary); three sisters, Audrey Clemons, Diane Dean, and Ramona Z. Harrell (Michael); three devoted friends, Kecia McKeiver, Dr. Esmin M. Shakespeare, and James Douglas; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Though he has transitioned from this earthly life, Mr. Young's legacy of honor, service, and love will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who knew and cherished him.
